Generation Gap
Waves
of first generation Hmong immigrants did what most newcomers to America
have done—they sought to peacefully practice the traditions of their
homeland as taught to them by their ancestors. For younger Hmong
Americans who do not know (or remember) their traditional homeland, the
gap between the old ways and the new is widening. Religious and cultural
practices change; traditional music and dance give way to new expressive
forms; knowledge of history, heritage, and even the native language
slips among the young. This segment explores the growing generation
“gap.”
Kev Txawv Txav uas Plam Ntawm

Thawj thawj cov Hmoob uas tuaj rau lub teb chaws no yeej tau ua ib yam

lug li yav thaum ub uas nyob rau lawv lub teb chaws uas poj ua tseg yawm

nco qab) lawv tej kev uas ib txwm coj dhau los nyob rau lawv lub teb
chaws, qhov txawv ntawm kev coj li yav thaum ub thiab qhov tshiab no

uas poob qab ntawm cov phaum no.”
