PTSD
From
soldiers fighting communists to families escaping violence in Laos, no
one emerged from the conflict in Southeast Asia unscathed. Suffering
physical and emotional trauma, many Hmong arrived in Thailand, and
later, in the United States, battling the lingering effects of
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Widely publicized incidents,
including a small number of violent encounters during hunting season,
while rare, have received enormous attention. Less known are the success
stories within the Hmong community in addressing this important mental
health issue.
