We are a non-partisan, non-profit organization within the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension, committed to carrying out the Wisconsin Idea. The Wisconsin Idea holds that the resources and expertise of the university should be applied to researching public problems, engaging in meaningful outreach and public service, and advancing the quality of life for the citizens and communities of Wisconsin. With access to the resources of the 13 UW Colleges campuses and UW-Extension offices in every county, the Wisconsin Institute is well-positioned to respond to this ideal.

We benefit from a large and diverse faculty with multi-disciplinary expertise and proven capacity to engage in public scholarship. We enjoy deeply embedded community-university relationships which allow us to address community needs in timely ways. We draw from a vibrant student population, many of whom are eager to contribute their time and energy to improving their campuses and communities. Ultimately, the Wisconsin Institute seeks to transform notions of the role of higher education and citizen engagement.
