As a component of the University of Wisconsin Colleges/University of Wisconsin–Extension, the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service shares the vision expressed by the traditional statement that has come to embody “The Wisconsin Idea”: that the boundaries of the campus are the boundaries of the state.” By this, the University of Wisconsin understands that education should influence people’s lives beyond the boundaries of the classroom, and the university’s role is to offer outreach efforts throughout Wisconsin and throughout the world. Over time, the Wisconsin Idea has come to signify more broadly the university’s commitment to public service. The creation of the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service is tangible evidence of this commitment, and the WIPPS mission of civic engagement extends throughout the state of Wisconsin and beyond. To accomplish its goals of civic engagement, WIPPS seeks to be a valued partner to the citizens of the North Central Wisconsin region and the citizens of the state, offering services and resources in a responsive, responsible and non-partisan manner to address pressing issues of concern .
