Department of Public Instruction and Other Statewide K-12 Partners
Since its creation in 2007, WIPPS has partnered with statewide educational agencies to conduct activities that utilize the Kettering/NIF model of deliberation. In July of 2008, a summer youth leadership program conducted through UW-Extension’s 4-H and Youth Development program area requested that WIPPS moderate a dialogue as part of their program. This led to formal deliberation training for a dozen UW-Extension colleagues who now have the capacity to spread the model statewide throughout the Cooperative Extension division. WIPPS also collaborated with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in Milwaukee and Racine Counties to conduct a moderated dialogue for a K-12 teacher training retreat in August, 2010. The DPI is contemplating using the Kettering/NIF model statewide as a service-learning tool in the K-12 classroom.
